New York (AP) — A doctor forced by a New York hospital due to sexual harassment accusations returned Friday with a assault rifle hidden below a lab coat and shot seven people, killing one girl and leaving several doctors fighting for their own lives, police said.

The gunman, Dr. Henry Bello, fatally shot himself after trying to set himself on fire at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, he said. He awakened into a hallway in which he collapsed and died at his side, officials explained.

Individuals in the hospital described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted. Workers locked themselves inside patients and rooms worried for their lives after a statement that an robbery was loose in the construction.

“I thought I was about to die,” said Renaldo Del Villar, a patient that had been in the third-floor emergency room receiving treatment for a lower back injury.

Law enforcement officials identified the shot as the 45 -Bello, who had been explained on the hospital site as a family medicine physician. Officials stated Bello utilized an AR-15 to the 16th and 17th floors in the attack.

Bello was permitted to resign amid sexual harassment allegations from the hospital in 2015, according to two law enforcement officials. The officials didn’t know the details of the allegations.

The officials weren’t authorized to explore the investigation and talked on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press.

In unrelated instances, the doctor pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment, a misdemeanor, in 2004 after a 23-year-old lady told police Bello grabbed her, then lifted her up and carried her off, saying, “You are coming with me.” He was arrested back on a complaint of surveillance in 2009, after two unique women reported that he tried to look up their skirts with a mirror.

On Friday, a doctor was killed and six other people were injured according to Police Commissioner James O’Neill. The patients had been treated at Bronx Lebanon in the emergency room.

They had been expected to survive, although two surgeons at the clinic told the AP that all six victims were in critical illness. The victims suffered gunshot wounds they stated. Bello might have doused himself and tried to put himself before shooting himself, officials explained. Sprinklers extinguished the fire.

In accordance with New York State Education Department documents, Bello experienced a limited license to practice as a global medical graduate to gain expertise in order to be accredited. The license was issued on July 1, 2014, and expired on the same moment.

Bello was explained by A former colleague as a problematic employee.

Bello “was very aggressive, speaking loudly, threatening folks. All the time that he had been a problem,” explained Dr. David Lazala, a family medicine doctor who said he trained Bello at Bronx Lebanon.

He explained Bello, that worked as a doctor at night, sent a email to him afterwards Bello had been fired.

Employees and their loved ones explained the moments right as they scrambled for information.
